Attention Pittsburgh….we SO need this:
Your mind is blown, I know.
After we scarfed down plates full of wings and Beef on Weck sandwiches at Cole’s, we decided to get dessert. And we were told by our Buffalonian friends that Zillycakes was the place to go.
And, of course, the locals were right.
Zillycakes has a fresh cupcake bar. Pick your cake, pick your icing, finish with fun toppings, and you have a made-to-order cupcake of your very own. During our visit, I went pretty basic in my custom cupcake creation: Yellow cupcake, Chocolate Italian Meringue Buttercream, and gold dust sprinkles.
As you may know, I am absolutely a cupcake fanatic and I have to honestly say, this cupcake was one of the best tasting cupcakes I’ve ever had. The yellow cake to chocolate buttercream ratio was spot on. One downfall usually to cupcakes is that they either have too much icing or not enough. This cupcake was an execution of perfection, with the cake to icing ration being pretty much the same. Taste-wise, the yellow cake was super moist, dense, and was packed full of golden delicious flavor. And, the light and fluffy buttercream was the perfect accompaniment to the yellow cake.
I absolutely regret not eating 3 more of these while I was in Buffalo. I guess there’s always next time!
