We are thankful
It is time to give thanks. And at eatPGH, we have plenty to be thankful for: new restaurants, excellent food all over the ‘burgh, and the great community of food lovers (you guys!).
I am thankful for Grit & Grace this year, because it is where I brought in my 31st birthday surrounded by my friends and many of the chefs and guests of the Urban Supper. So far, this year has been the best year yet and for that, I am thankful. I also want to give a thankful shout-out to Grit’s steam buns, Scorpion bowl, and chicken wings, all of which I have consumed a lot of in these few short months of being 31.
I have to give a thankfulness shout out to Eden in Shadyside. I rediscovered this gem at just the right time. The tiny space and local artwork, which included decks of cards full of questions on every table, was the perfect place to have the best second date this past spring. My now boyfriend, Matt, and I bonded over our BYOB wine, a delish dish of peanut noodles, and fun inquiries like “Where do you see yourself in five years?” and “How do you know you are in love?” Much love, Eden, much love.
I am thankful for burgers at Butterjoint…especially since getting braces (or as Sarah likes to point out, adult braces). Eating most food is more difficult than I ever expected (I still love you peanut butter, pears, and gum!). And I’m slowly counting down the days to when I can once again bite into that juicy piece of heaven without hesitation or fear. Parting has been such sweet sorrow dear Fancy Burger of the Day, and I’m so thankful for the days we spent together. I’ll see you again in 275 days or so.
I am thankful for Nicky’s Thai Kitchen. It is practically in my back yard, which means I can go as often as I want, and I do so often. I am thankful for the consistency in overall deliciousness and the pleasant surprises when I order something other than by my standby. I am thankful for the exotic warmth of the patio on summer nights, the fresh flowers upon the tabletops, and the fact that they let me bring my own booze. Nicky’s has become as comfortable and as familiar to me this year as a dear old friend, and who can’t use a friend like that?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your time with family and friends.
