A special guest was in town and I wanted to treat her to a lovely dinner. After some last minute contemplation, we decided on Root 174. If you are looking for a neighborhood brunch spot with a vibrant vibe and friendly staff, Square Cafe in Regent Square is the place. The only downside is that the place is small and it can be beyond packed when you want to eat. So, just be patient. Now, the food. The food is a tad overpriced by a few dollars, but is good. Occupying the space left by Legume’s exit to Oakland, Root 174 is an intimate, BYOB dinner spot. Expect to sit close to other dining parties, but that will hardly be a distraction once your food arrives. The menu is a continually adapting organism, so it seems.
