I, like every other red-blooded Pittsburgher, was brunching on Sunday. But I can pretty much guarantee my brunch was cooler than yours. I attended the first (of hopefully many) brunch at Studio AM. The genius team that is Baron Batch, Sean Beauford, John Malecki, Jimmy Klocek, Will Allen and Johnny Goood put on quite a spread. The vibe was relaxed and inviting, the food was unpretentious and belly warming and the people…. well, the people were not the brand of “high class hipster” (I wish I could take credit for that term, but those were Baron’s words, not mine) we’ve come to expect at most brunch outings around the city. Baron’s colorful art was literally vibrating off the walls, the chatter and smiles energized me more than the cold glass of oj and the hot cup of coffee. And the blueberry muffin I ate, courtesy of the adorable pastry chef at Sweet Little Eats, made me see blueberries in my dreams last night.
That spread included goat cheese stuffed chicken breast with rice, cheese gratin potatoes, biscuits and sausage gravy, cinnamon roll cake, nutella muffins, previously mentioned life changing blueberry muffins and scones. Plus.. you could order off a small menu as Chef Steve was making banana chocolate chip pancakes and breakfast sandwiches.
After a quick tour of the new(ish) space (Studio AM took over the old Smoke space in Homestead) we made ourselves at home on the black leather couch and stayed a while. We ate, we had intelligent conversation and we didn’t really feel like we had to leave.
Thanks to the welcoming and friendly folks at Studio AM for a memorable meal. And thanks for being so cool.
