Pittsburgh Irish Festival (and a little bonus)
Sarah, Julia and I were lucky enough to attend the Pittsburgh Irish Festival a few weeks ago. We narrowly missed the rain that Sunday afternoon, which was nice because we were able to pull up a seat at one of the picnic tables and dig into our Irish Fare sans raindrops. It was too difficult to decide what to get to eat, so Sarah and I opted for the partner route and we shared the traditional fish and chips (with vinegar) and the Shepherd’s pie. I ended up eating most of both meals, because that’s how I roll. Sorry Sarah! As a proud Irishmandy I had some mad respect for the Shepherd’s pie. It was hearty and flavorful, overflowing the Styrofoam bowl. I pretty much scraped the bottom of the bowl with the chips from Sarah’s meal, because honestly… they needed a bit of something on the side. I was disappointed in fish and chips, even doused in vinegar the dish was bland. Had we been smarter, we would have taste tested the different fish and chips offerings.
After catching a few tunes by the legendary Cahal Dunne, we took a jaunt around the field to check out the booths, gave a sheep a pet and a baa then took to the road to get some ice cream! I would have driven right past Page’s Dairy Mart. Good thing Julie had the lowdown on the place. Without skipping a beat, I ordered the Strawberry ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. I peeked inside the window as they mixed strawberry sauce right into the ice cream, creating the most beautiful pink frozen treat ever! It was a lot of ice cream. A normal person wouldn’t be able to finish it… *coughJulieandSarahscrapedsomeintothegarbagecancough* and I had to look away in horror. I can’t wait to go back and try another combination as they have tons of toppings!
