Things I love: Surprise dining adventures. Sarah and I were having coffee in Lawrenceville at Espresso A Mano on Saturday and after our caffeine fix we decided to walk to La Gourmandine to get a sugar fix. We’d only made it a couple of blocks when we saw something we’d not seen in Lawrencville before. FRANKTUARY! We walked over to take a peek and saw friends already partaking in an afternoon hotdog. They are men after our own hearts and were ‘food fauxtographing’ and we made it into their shot/we got paparazzied!
Needless to say, we got sidetracked and had to pop in for a dog and some poutine.
First let me say, awesome space guys. Love the upcycled pews, the red leather topped bar stools and the open garage doors in January. Hey 60 degree weather, hey! We took advantage of a couple of open seats along said doors to enjoy the fresh air and were handed menus (hint for the hostess though, may be a good idea to tell
folks sitting along the wall that they don’t have a
to place your order at the bar when you’re ready) we sat for a while before we asked a fellow patron how we were supposed to get us some dogs!
I spotted a few new things on the menu, aside from hot dogs, they offered fries with poutine (several varieties), meatballs, salads and pierogies. I also noticed a few new specialty hot dogs.
I finally settled on the “Memphis”, topped with slaw, bbq sauce and potato sticks while Sarah had the “Bangkok”, served with Thai peanut sauce, carrot and cilantro. We shared the “Poo-Teen Texan”, fries with cheddar, chili and jalapenos. (Minus the cheddar… could have used more cheese guys!)
While the dogs have the same great
quality as the downtown location and the truck, the wait was a bit long. We understand growing pains and getting started in a new space/training new team members, but we saw our food sitting at the bar for a while before it actually came to us, lukewarm. Let’s hope they put some hustle into their hotdogs in the future.
Other than that, stand up job guys. eatPGH approved!
