El Burro Comedor
Just to set up the scene, you should all know, I am not a taco-fiend. Visions of corn tortillas and guacamole rarely dance through my head space. It’s not that I dislike tacos — I just don’t LOVE tacos.
Enter El Burro Comedor, a take out taco and burrito joint, on the North Side at 1108 Federal Street. I stopped in on the Monday after their first weekend open (first weekend in November). I ordered a shredded beef hard shell taco and the too-hard-to-resist carne asada fries (fries topped with carne asada, guacamole, cheese, heaven).
Please read the first paragraph again. Got it? Cool… Well, here’s the thing guys, I am in love with tacos now, or at least THIS taco. I will dream of this taco. I want to wear a t-shirt that says “I Heart This” with an arrow pointing to an El Burro shredded beef taco and prance through the streets.

Not the best looking taco, but looks can be deceiving. And lets just all take a moment to appreciate that see-through-causing greasiness.
The shredded beef was tender and juicy. The hard shell taco was a perfect crunch, but also a bit soft (weird and beautiful).
The carne asada fries were perfect for sharing — there were a lot. The gal manning the register thankfully gave us forks to dig in. Really good stuff. Again with the tender meats and tasty toppings.
El Burro Comedor is open until 7PM Monday through Saturday. Go there now and prepare your heart for falling in love.
