Skillet
To experience a true farm-to-table meal, head to Skillet, specifically for brunch on Saturday or Sunday. What you are going find at Skillet is “Rustic. Urban. Food” made from products grown only in Ohio. Example: You want a wedge of lemon with your water? Not gonna get one at Skillet because lemons aren’t grown in Ohio.
The menu here changes daily, depending on what fresh produce arrives through the side door. It’s that fresh, friends. We arrived for breakfast on a Friday morning, as Skillet opened up just to accommodate our culinary food tour. Highlights of the menu included lamb hash, smoked chicken gravy and biscuits, and blackberry and farmer’s cheese pancakes, pictured below.
Both savory and sweet at the same time, these may be the best pancakes I’ve ever had. Ok, maybe not the best but definitely the most uniquely flavored. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never had cheese inside my pancakes. I now love the combination.
We also enjoyed a variety of scones (lemon curd, blueberry, tomato, and black pepper) served with melted butter…
And a grilled cinnamon roll topped with caramel sauce and stringy icing.
I will actually state for the record here that this is the best cinnamon roll I have ever had in my lifetime. The roll was light and flakey, almost like a pastry rather than a dense cinnamon roll. And the caramel and stringy icing was the bomb. I am still thinking about how amazing this roll was during my visit and why I didn’t stick it in my purse to go. (Note: start carrying Ziploc bags in purse).
