California Taco Shop

If there’s one thing my friends know about me… it’s that I can house Mexican food like it is my job. Tacos. Enchiladas. Burritos. (Fried Ice Cream.) I have to say that I’m a little disappointed with the lack of authentic Mexican offerings around town… so needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled when a friend told me about California Taco Shop. Even more exciting, it is a hop, skip and jump away from my house. CTS is barely noticeable from the outside, in fact, upon my first visit… we passed by it not once, but twice. The exterior has photos of their offerings and specials plastered on the windows and bright colors greet you as you walk in the doors. And then… there’s the Hispanic TV station that plays on a TV up front. I don’t hate that. It is a super small restaurant, only a few tables and a few booths lining the walls. What they DO have is a station set up with all sorts of toppings and salsas where you can help yourself! I like that because then I get to try all different types of salsa without committing. Blehk, commitment.
Anywhoooo. Pork. That’s the name of the game at California Taco Shop. Stuff pork in a burrito with some fresh guac and I’m smitten. They serve authentic corn tortillas on the double. Something I love is their platter. Pork Platter. It’s a deconstructed version of the burrito so you pile it on to your liking and eat in a more ladylike fashion. Do, do, do the chips and dip trio. Fresh salsa, homemade guacamole and queso.

I snagged a Groupon deal for that place recently too – looking forward to it now!
You have great friends to tell you about such excellent restaurants! This place is wonderful! The staff is so genuine and appreciative of your business and the food is off the hook. They were super stoked to see their food on your blog!
Normally a huge fan of this place. However, the past three times I have been there (all different days of the week) Chile Rellenos were not available because they didn’t have ingredients. And when I went yesterday, they were out of cheese, tomato and chopped onion. Which was mentioned AFTER I was handed my takeout. I enjoy going here but they need to pick up the steam. And PS: they don’t offer the chip and dip trio anymore. It’s chips and salsa only. No guac or cheese available with chips.
