Taco Tuesdays at Biba
- Beaver
If you are craving gourmet tacos on a random Tuesday, let me suggest you head north-west to Biba, which denotes itself as serving upscale Latin fare. On Tuesdays, Biba has a taco special: $5 for two tacos, which are normally priced around $8 for two.
So why travel all the way up to Beaver for tacos? Because they are pretty tasty and the rest of the menu of small and large plates, like the Seared Scallops and Chicken Enchilada, looks very tasty too. And if I need to twist your arm even more, Biba is BYOB.
A few Tuesdays ago, I paid my first visit to Biba. The $5 tacos specials for the day were:
Jerk Pork Tacos topped with a peach and radish salsa and queso cheese:
And Korean Chicken Tacos topped with slaw, sour cream, sriracha, spicy peanuts, and cilantro:
Also, on the menu (priced at the full price of $8) were the Steak Tacos topped with pickled peppers and onions, chipotle mayo, sour cream, queso cheese, and cilantro:
My tacos of choice were the Jerk Pork Tacos, weird because I don’t really love pork or peaches. But, I have to tell you that these were excellent. Each taco was packed with pulled pork and topped with a really chunky peach and radish salsa. Honestly, I could have used a ton more salsa than was provided. It was that good. I was surprised how much I really enjoyed these. My favorite part of each taco had to be the grilled taco shell (which I want to say was a flour or flour/corn blend tortilla, but I am completely not sure). The grilling of the shell added not only those fancy grill marks but a smokey element of flavor that was unexpected and and quite pleasurable.
I did not try the other two taco flavors, but friend of eatPGH did and the verdict was that the Chicken Tacos were definitely spicy and the Steak Tacos were definitely cooked to a medium.
While at Biba, I was excited to try dessert, which friend of eatPGH said the restaurant served churros with a spicy chocolate sauce. It was a total bummer to learn that the churro machine was broken that night and had been broken for quite some time.
Super sadcakes. Super.
When the churro machine is fixed, I’ll be back Biba for a double order of churros, more tacos, and an entree.

BOTH tacos were spicy, but faaaaaaantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly and the peanuts combined with the slaw gave the chicken a wonderful (albeit spicy) crunch. Next time we find time for lunch? They have a very well priced menu and know from experience the Cuban sammie is a winner!
