Las Palmas 2
Hey Oakland, hey! I’m going to tell you about an amazingly delicious and cheap lunch:
Las Palmas 2 Taco Stand on Atwood Street.
If you walk down Atwood Street from Forbes Avenue, you will literally run into this huge blue tent and a long line of customers waiting for tacos. And, the walk and wait is definitely worth it. Just look at this awesomeness:
Even more awesome, these tacos are priced at just $2 each. Now, I can put down some tacos, but I barely made it through both of these. They are overstuffed with meat and toppings of your choice.
So, how do you order some these? Let me explain:
-Walk inside the market and pay at the register. Note: it’s worth taking small bills, change, and your debt card with you. When I went, the cashier did not have change for a $20, so I had to use my card.
- After you pay for your tacos (and a drink if you find something quench-worthy inside the coolers), get in line and wait. Try not drooling on the sidewalk. This will be hard not to do.
- Once you get to the man at the grill top, tell the man how many tacos you purchased what kind of meat you want inside of them. On my visit, the options were beef, pork, and chorizo. I went with the beef.
- After you get your plate full of tacos, walk to the “toppings bar.” Here, you will find a variety of salsas, fresh lime wedges, and guacamole. Dress your tacos with the appropriate toppings and enjoy! There is no seating, so just find someone’s stoop and post up while you chow down.
These are some pretty amazing tacos, both in flavor and price. Next time you find yourself in Oakland and want to eat off the beaten path, try Las Palmas 2 Taco Stand.

I’ve heard these are only available on weekends – and then only in the evenings/night time, do you happen to know the hours when they are sold? Thanks, I’ve been eager to try these and have heard good things!
I went for lunch on a Tuesday. I also they they are open during the evenings.
The taco stand outside of Las Palmas has been doing afternoons/evenings daily for a bit. Occasionally Mi Ranchito (a bit farther down Atwood) will do tacos next to their store on weekend nights. That’s likely what you heard about. I’d recommend both.
