Event: The Pittsburgh Dumpling Experiment
Okay Pittsburgh, we got this.
One culinary dish we know better than possibly any other city: the pierogie. And, there is an upcoming amature cooking contest coming to town where you can show off you pierogie-making skills.
On May 20, 2012, at Mr. Smalls Theater in Millvale, The Pittsburgh Dumpling Experiment will be happening. Pittsburgh is the seventh stop (out of 16 cities) on this national tour hosted by Brooklyn Brewery. So not only will there be an old church full of dumplings aka pierogies, but an old church full of beer!
If you want to enter the armature cooking contest, here is what you need to know:
- You will get $50 gift card for Giant Eagle Market District to help pay for your ingredients;
- The Grand Prize is a trip to Brooklyn courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery, plus cookware from Le Creuset, Anolon, Wusthof, and Microplane;
- Earn a chance to compete in the National Championships on December 16; and
- Straight up bragging rights that you make the best dumpling aka pierogie in Pittsburgh.
Judging the contest will be: Derek Stevens, Executive Chef, Eleven; Kevin Costa, Chef/Owner, Crested Duck; Virginia Phillips and Marlene Parrish, food writers and Co-Founders Slow Food Pittsburgh; and Jamilka Borges, Chef de Cuisine, Legume Bistro.
Sign up online to compete or purchase tickets to attend the contest at $10 a piece (which includes Brooklyn Brews and tons of dumpling samples) online at http://thefoodexperiments.com/tour/pittsburgh/.
