Walnut Grove
I happen to LOVE LOVE LOVE Shady Grove in Shadyside since they have MY FAVORITE item of food- Shadysticks. If you know what these are, I am sure you love them just as much. If you don’t know what they are, you should go find out immediately.
At Walnut Grove, I first started my lunchtime meal with the Caramelized Walnut Salad. The salad was great, though the caramelized walnuts were not. They kept sticking into my teeth. I mean, I should have understood that before ordering, but I didn’t think they would stick as much. Nonetheless, the salad was good.
Also, the BREAD! I judge a restaurant by the quality of the breadbasket. In this case, we were served crusty white bread with two butters- a roasted red pepper butter (I think!) and a chocolate chip butter. Yes, chocolate chip butter that I would love to smear on everything.
For my main lunch entrée, I went with the Margarita Pizza. Thinking that the pizza dough would be the same as the most amazing dough at Shady Grove, I was mistaken. Now this pizza was good, but I was expecting the amazingness of Shady Grove. This pizza did not live up to the Shadysticks my stomach wanted. When not craving Shadysticks, I would order this pizza again, but without the tomato ragu. It was flavorful, but did not allow for the tastes of the cheese and dough to come through. Just too powerful.
Overall, Walnut Grove and the other sister locations, Shady Grove and Walnut Grill are always a great place to go, and I will definitely make a trip back to Walnut Grove and give other items on the menu a try.
