Local Bar + Kitchen

Newish in the South Side is Local. Now, I have heard mixed reviews about this place. Typically, these reviews were Great Atmosphere, Bad Food.

On my recent visit there, I met a friend for cocktails and appetizers.  Really, how can anyone mess up those?  Among cocktails, we ordered the Pretzel Shop Pretzel, complete with apple cinnamon sauce, queso blanco and honey mustard dipping sauces, and the Buffalo Chicken Dip served with carrots, celery and homemade chips.

I love a good soft pretzel, so I didn’t find a problem with them.  I did with the Buffalo Chicken Dip.  Overall, the buffalo taste was satisfying, but I think there were two chunks of chicken in the whole thing. Clearly, Local doesn’t follow all of the locals recipes with tons and tons of chicken chunks.  Also the homemade chips. Wrong. They were grilled pieces of pita bread. Which is perfectly acceptable, if that’s what was stated on the menu. I was looking for more of a homemade tortilla chip, Mexican style.

I have to agree with all of the reviews I read before going. Great atmosphere, bad food.
