Burgatory

There has been a buzz about the burgers at Burgatory in the Waterworks Mall. Since apparently all I eat is hamburgers these days, I needed to check it out ASAP. I went on a Friday night, around 8, and was greeted with a crap ton of people waiting. I took that as a good sign.

My party and I were told by the hostess that the wait was going to be an hour and a half. Instead of leaving dejected and burgerless, we headed to the bar. We were ignored by the bartenders for a solid 10 minutes (eek) and finally were able to order drinks. I decided on a s’mores milkshake, only to find that it is indeed the best milkshake I have ever had. Ground up graham crackers, a hint of chocolate sauce, and one giant marshmallow. Also, bonus points for the refill canister of milkshake – the more the merrier. LOOK AT THIS:

Mere minutes later, we were ushered to a table. Hour and a half? Subtract that hour, and the hostess was right on. Good thing we didn’t abandon ship!

Now on to the burger. Burgatory has plenty of amazing sounding pre-built burgers. However, I built my own, complete with “angel dust” seasoning (salt and pepper?), garlic mayo, and swiss cheese. The burger was presented with a pitch fork stuck through the center, and dudes, it was indeed sinfully good. Even though I get my burger well done (I have an unhealthy fear of food borne illness…), the burger was still juicy and flavorful.

Also, the chips on the side were a combo of normal potato and sweet potato chips. Nice. Sadly, the service at this point was still less than stellar. My burger had a kick – and our waiter never came around with more water. I drank about a gallon when I got home.

The restaurant will surely sort out the kinks of the inconsistent service (please?), it’s still quite new, so once it is out of limbo, this could be the perfect burger joint.  The decor is cheeky, the shakes are intense, and the burgers melt in your mouth. Mmm hmm:
