II Pizzaiolo
When a restaurant is known for something I like to give it a try. A signature dish can tell a lot about the rest of the menu. II Pizzaiolo’s in Mt. Lebanon is known for its brick oven pizza so naturally I got a pizza.
After a short wait at the back wine bar which is quaint and carry’s itself with a warm comfortable atmosphere, we took our seats outside. Looking over the menu nothing caught my eye as much as the pizzas. We eventually decided on the Lasagna pizza: thin crust pizza loaded with feta cheese, basil and buffalo mozzarella cheese. Although the ingredients tasted garden fresh, the pizza overall was lackluster. I was expecting more of a flavor punch that just never happened.
In fact I was more impressed with the overall ambiance of the back patio. It was romantic despite the possibility of being spied on by the surrounding apartments.

your review was lackluster
Thank you very nice you love /o
The lasagna pizza doesn’t have feta on it. It is fresh ricotta. Not intended to pack a flavor “punch” like feta.
In fact nothing at il pizzaiolo has feta. If you really wanted to try their “signature dish” you would have tried the margherita D.O.C. which is made with imported San Marzano tomatos, buffalo mozz, extra virgin olive oil and fresh basil – the closest thing you can get to what you’d eat in Italy.
If you are going to write a review, at least get your facts straight. I’m relived I had eaten at il Pizzaiolo before reading this review not only because I would hate to have missed the pies at il Piz, but also because now I know not to take you seriously as a food-reviewer.
abby: We greatly appreciate your comment and apologize for our cheese mix up. Our waiter actually recommended the Lasagna Pizza which is why we selected it. We hope you continue reading eatpgh in the future.
I’m EXTREMELY excited to be living in Mt. Lebo now so I can frequent this place. Sarah and I went a while back and I had the veal special but that pizza looks divine… SO I’ll be back and I think I’ll grab me some wine while I’m at it!
