Veracruz Restaurant
If you didn’t know, I “XOXO” Mexican food. So much so, it’s quite embarrassing.
Today, I tacked Veracruz Restaurant.
I have known about this spot since college, however, I never ever gave it a shot. That is probably because the queso dip from Qdoba across the street always draws me in. Also, since my ever-lasting love of El Campensino is so strong, I’m always a little skeptical when I enter an authentic Mexican joint for the first time. I will always compare the quality to El Campensino. I just do.
But today, I was ready to expand my horizons. My friend Kymbo Slice has always been telling me to go to Veracruz for lunch. And…. I always pass it up. But today, my friend CZ pulled me in.
We both went with the chicken chili burrito and it tasted just like it sounds- chicken chili and rice in a burrito shell. With a side of a FEW chips, the total cost was under $5.00.
I would recommend this joint if you are interested in trying it. The food tasted simple and good. Sometimes I don’t need lime flavored rice with fru-fru invented salsa and a cilantro garnish. Sometimes, I just want a damn simple burrito that tastes good. And that’s definitely what I got.
Next time, I’m tackling the enchiladas. Kymbo says they are bomb!

Veracruz is pretty solid for a quick, cheap, Oakland lunch. I like getting the chicken chili burritos "supremo style". It gets you sour cream and guac on the burrito. And the enchiladas verdes are good!
Oh, I will definitely try the enchiladas verdes next! Thanks for the rec.
Worst burrito of my life. You can see it right in the picture: the rice in the burrito congeals into a gummy riceblob that you carry around like a rock in your stomach for the rest of the day. Yeah this is Pittsburgh not East LA, but cooking rice is basic — for example, Mexico City does alright.
