Six Penn Kitchen
A couple of the eatPGH girls found ourselves at Six Penn Kitchen after work on Friday.
I have always been a fan of Six Penn, though the menu didn’t really move me this time.
The bread basked looked promising, with a mixture of different breads. The cornbread was good and had a bit of a kick from jalapenos and the tomato bread was just okay.
We ordered a round of the soft pretzels. You can’t really go wrong with a soft pretzel. These weren’t bad, but I think I prefer the stick shape. Also, it would be a great idea to serve several more of these alongside different dipping sauces and place them on the appetizer menu– just an idea.
The cheese plate was great. Really, who doesn’t love a good cheese plate? Great presentation on the wood.
For my dinner, I ordered the burger on a cornbread bun (Photo above). This seems like such a good concept, however the cornbread really doesn’t hold up to the weight of the beef patty, so this was a fork and knife burger. Also, the sweet potato fries on the side could have used an interesting dipping sauce, perhaps a chipotle ketchup or something fun like that.
Six Penn is always a great spot to head to when you are Downtown looking for a twist on American comfort food. Be sure to check out their rooftop deck and savor the homemade mints given alongside your check.

I love their buffalo chicken mac and cheese! And the pretzels were little nubbies last time I was there. Did they change to the traditional pretzel shape?
I do like ur article~!!! ........................................
Have you tried Six Penn's brunch? Not a cliche on the menu. Very innovative. COOKSPEAK!
I don't love Six Penn, I have to admit. I find the food too complicated and annoying in execution and the restaurant itself very noisy. That said I will continue to make regular trips there because my coworkers love it!
Those pretzels look so pathetic. Six Penn has been letting me down lately. I understand they want to mix and match flavors and be creative, but I think their menu is too strange. When I go there, everyone at my table orders an item, and then asks that something be taken off the item. I always end up ordering a pizza because I can't figure out what to order. Maybe I will like it more when it's warmer and the deck is open upstairs!
