My roommate and I decided to have a classy evening out last Friday – going to the opera and eating in the cultural district. However, we failed to make reservations anywhere. This resulted in us walking from restaurant to restaurant in order to find a place that we could be served in time for the performance. Noted for next time: use opentable.com.
Anyway, we finally ended up sitting in the bar area of NineOnNine, assured of the fact that the bar menu has some of the same items as the regular menu. (it certainly had the prices of the regular menu!! holy cow pricey!) Since it was, as noted above, a classy evening, I tried to forget about expenses. I ordered the mustard seed crusted salmon over a potato salad complete with French green beans. It was truly awesome. The photo above looks sort of gross – I assure you it was not.
I also had a speciality cocktail called the “French 75.” It was a mix of organic gin and lemon flavoring. It basically tasted like lemon water. Now, I admittedly rarely drink, but that sucker was POTENT. Even after my salmon dinner and two baskets full of bread, I still stumbled to the opera. Thanks NineOnNine!
It was definitely a good meal and worth the one-time budget indulgence.
